Analysis of the Development of Regional Economy
Example: EU-Project Regional Airports Interaction for Regional Development (RAIRDev)
The RAIRDev project focuses on the strengthening of integrated and sustainable regional development based on a flexible regional air transport system. The maintenance, expansion, improvement, and promotion of the existing regional airports and the reinforcement of the economic development and competitiveness of the airports and corresponding regions through the planning of common policies and the collaboration of private and public sector stakeholders on local, national, and transnational level, are some of the proposals for the achievement of economic, social and territorial cohesion in the CADSES area.
The complexity of the subject certifies the involvement of many differentiated actors in every participating area, that affect directly or indirectly the progress of operation. The nature of these actors varies in means of the institutional framework in each state and of the originated economic sector (public, private, voluntary). More specifically there are local governmental instruments such as County, Municipality and Region Councils and Boards, as well as the central governmental stakeholders like Ministries for economic, social and regional development and Departments for Civil Air transport. Furthermore there are Chambers, Tourism Organizations and Associations, Air Companies, Technological and Business Parks, Experts and University/Research Institutions.
The primary aim of the modelling and evaluation tool is to understand the essential characteristics of the interrelated dynamics between regional airports and regional economics. As a result, scenario-based recommendations supporting the political decision process have been developed.
